The director of That Winter, The Wind Blows, PD Kim Kyu-tae, is departing from the standard drama series format with his next project, taking an omnibus approach for a five-episode drama titled Secret Love. Billed as a romantic melodrama, the short series will feature five separate segments told with a “fairy-tale-like sentimentality,” with each part exploring a separate emotion-filled love story.
Thus far we’ve only got news on one of those parts, titled “I Miss You” and starring Yeon Woo-jin (When A Man Loves, ARang and the Magistrate). He’s a promising actor with a lovely groundedness to his acting and capable of emotional vulnerability—he always feels present in his roles—so I’m happy to see him taking on leading roles, even if this one’s just a one-episoder. He plays a photographer who’s an emotionally supportive boyfriend to Han Seung-yeon, idol-actress of girl group KARA, and the two are featured in a “heartbreaking love story” with a time travel theme.
I can’t say I’m excited about the time travel bit—that was so last year, literally—but this director has an artistic eye and can produce beautiful and melancholy work, so I expect Secret Love to be rich in visual splendor. (Other credits on PD Kim’s resumé: Padam Padam, The World They Live In, A Love To Kill.)
No word yet on when or where this will air, but I expect more news shortly.
