If telenovelas have taught us anything besides the delicate art of dramatic stares, it is that true love will always triumph over all. In honor of the launch of Season 2 of the classic love story Muneca Brava (Wild Doll), here is a list of some of the hottest telenovela couples that fought through it all to be together.
Minor Spoiler Alert: Most star-crossed telenovela lovers come from different social classes/backgrounds that lead to forbidden love, and FYI, the guy usually gets the girl. That’s why we love ‘em.
El Clon (The Clone)
An epic love story and, consequently, one of the most expensive telenovelas ever produced. Here is a love that surpassed all cultural differences, physical distance, time and even a conflicted and troublesome clone.
Muneca Brava (Wild Doll)
This original love story that has been told around the world could’ve been riddled with clichés, but it stood apart from the rest because of Mili’s blunt and hilarious personality and the unique chemistry between her and Ivo. She’s the poor orphan that falls in love with the rich heir, but Mili is no damsel in distress. Far from it.
Yo Soy Betty, La Fea (I Am Betty, The Ugly)
The original show that started the ‘Ugly’ craze worldwide, confirms that love is not about the physical aspects, but about what’s inside (and it didn’t hurt that Betty wasn’t actually unattractive but just needed some stylists).
Café con Aroma de Mujer (Coffee, With the Scent of a Woman)
This is a classic tale of first love. Gaviota, a poor coffee harvester and Sebastian, the heir to a wealthy coffee empire, fall in love as soon as they lay eyes on each other, but are quickly separated. In their long quest to reunite, she is tricked into forced labor as a prostitute in Europe while he settles into a loveless marriage. Classic. Eventually love triumphs and they do make it out OK.
Maria la del Barrio (Humble Maria)
The classic rag to riches story told yet again, though it still manages to be one of the most beloved and successful telenovelas worldwide. Maria and Luis Fernando must fight family pressure, society, and even some violent psychopath getting in the way in order to finally be together.
El Triunfo del Amor (The Triumph of Love)
“Love” definitely has to be on top of its game in order to triumph here. This layered story spans generations of people being a bit deceitful and basically lying to everyone, but in the end the two lovers – Maria (the secret biological daughter of Victoria) and Max (the secret adopted son of Victoria) – end up finding each other and forgiving all.
As an added bonus… A screencap of William Levy as Max, apologizing to Maria for messing up (told you they all lied). Since it’s William Levy, pretty sure he was forgiven.
What other couples would you add?
