Let’s Travel to Rabbit Island in Japan!

Rabbit Island is a small island in between Hiroshima and Shikoku that houses more than 300 bunnies you can visit! If you’re in Tokyo, it’s a train ride and a short 12 minute ferry ride to the island. The interesting thing about the island — which is actually named ‘Okunoshima’ — is it was at one time “a top-secret military site manufacturing poison gas.” It’s since become a site school children visit for educational field trips. However in 1971 supposedly a group of children let eight rabbits go and the island has since become over run with them!

Now people visit the island to play with all the bunnies, who are as big as dogs and cats. The bunnies have no fear; they allow people to pet them, they play, they ask for snacks, and do all sorts of cute things you would expect of bunnies. You can even take a ‘Lets Play with Rabbits’ tour!
