[Live Recap] “Master’s Sun” Episode 1

Written before it aired:

On my own blog, I’ve been saying that I wouldn’t recap this drama for weeks now ever since the trailers have been airing. I have been jumping out of my skin from fright and declared I would never go near this show, but then one day reality set in. I suddenly remembered all the previous Hong sisters’ dramas I have enjoyed in the past and thought there just had to be a twist about this story that I was overlooking due to my innate fear of anything related to apparitions. So in one brave moment, I pressed play on the long preview. Along with the mini heart attacks came that certain “aha” moment I tend to get when I realize a connection to the drama. It was the fact that Tae Gong Sil found her security blanket in Joo Joong Won. After constant bouts of insomnia from seeing ghosts all the time, she discovered that he is the one thing that keeps them at bay. As long as she touches him, the specters disappear. Like a drowning victim, she is going to cling to him every chance she gets. That one piece of revelation is what turned things around and here I am live recapping a drama that could easily give me nightmares for the next decade. I think I figured out why so many Koreans love watching ghost related dramas and movies this time of the year. It’s not just the chill they get from being frightened that keeps them cool in the summer, it’s the chill you get from feeling alive in that moment. Say what you will about Tae Gong Sil’s ability, but I bet she never once forgot to keep in mind that as long as she keeps seeing ghosts, at least she is still alive to see them.

My typical live recap style is to use abbreviations for the names cuz it’s faster to type and I tend to forget or mix up Korean names easily. Once in a while when Joonni (a fellow blogger and recapper) has time, she will help me fill in the puns and jokes that are trademarks of the Hong sisters. The initial live recap draft will be posted first right after it airs or a few times during the show if there is enough of a time gap to press update. Then I will go back and edit for the rest of the night till most of the dialogue has been filled in so you can keep refreshing for more details. Screencaps usually show up around a few hours after the show. Words take priority over visuals in my book unless a certain good looking actor makes me forget that so if you see screencaps first, you know why.

 

I wonder if she knows there is a fine line between clinging to save your sanity and just plain taking advantage of the situation to hug an attractive man.

Episode 1

Starts from rain and thunder outside a building. Looking pretty ghostly herself, Gong Sil walks over and sorts trash and puts then in the recycle bin. a lady calls out Tae Yang – miss Tae. today during the day #404 left again so clean it. Gong Sil repeats the room number sounding afraid. the lady says why can’t that room last – they keep moving out. maybe cuz it’s unlucky cuz of the death. Tae Yang – that drawer in the room too- put it outside.

*Gong Sil lives and works at this small boarding home (a gosiwon but they call it a gositel) as the super – cleaning and taking care of things. the lady was the owner of the boarding home 

Dreading each step of the way, Gong Sil goes slowly up and opens the door. every little sound or door bang scares Gong Sil as she sees the ghost pop up everywhere. Gong Sil says what to do and runs down the hallway trying to get away from it. she runs up the stairs and goes to the roof and through her door. she holds onto the door handle as someone tries to open it. she yells for them to go. suddenly it stops and the ghost is inside the room with her. the face changes to an old grandma.

Gong Sil is wearing a white hooded rain coat and stands outside in the rain. she goes to a wake and hands a man something the grandma gave to her to give to him. the son says my mother and looks at the bank book and says the money in the account is over ten thousand. his sisters come over and look and say it’s for real. Gong Sil says she said to use it for the funeral and the rest to use it to pay off your debts. the son cries and says mother. Gong Sil says there was another message for you. the son says tell me. Gong Sil relays that message in the grandma’s tone and even grabs him by the collar calling him a rotten guy. if you gamble again I will come back and cut off your hand. You cant gamble! she lets go and he falls back. Gong Sil says that is what she said. the family looks at her horrified but then the woman grabs the bank book and says it really is mom’s bank account. it’s over ten thousand – how did she have all this. the son asks for it but his sister says that’s not all yours oppa. half is mine. he says how is it yours. mom passed it onto me. the ex wife says half is mine so he yells what did you do for half of it to be yours- what did you do for mom. the woman says then what did you do – all you did was gamble. she blames him for their divorce. he blames her for being responsible for cutting off his finger. the sister defends spending the compensation to save the brother. the family argues as Gong Sil leaves. She watches the grandma look on sadly at her family fighting over the money. grandma nods gratefully to Gong Sil and disappears.

Joong Won asks are you saying there is a dead ghost here. the man says yes my dead wife is still in this home. thinking of my kids I was thinking of selling this home, but my dead wife doesn’t want that. Joong Won asks if the man insists on standing in the way of his golf resort (cuz I guess it was going to be built on this land). the man says my wife is here so how can I push her away. Joong Won asks a deceased person is here. ok fine. if she is really here then let’s get rid of her together. what did she say. the man says if you look at that flower you will know. (he points to a white rose) that flower was what my wife cherished the most. when I decided to sell this home, that flower wilted but when I made up my mind not to sell it bloomed again. Joong Won summarizes what he said – that his wife expressed her choice via that flower. he goes over to the white rose and picks up some shears and speaks to the photo “flower wife – listen well and decide -you don’t want to sell this home but I will buy this house. could you never sell? then make the neck of the flower nod. if it doesn’t then I will cut the head off the flower. the man asks what are you doing now. Joong Won gives the dead wife 3 secs and counts down and cuts. the man says are you crazy. Joong Won says you are the one who is crazy. people who are alive finished talking and you brought in a dead person and made it all go away so isn’t that crazy. the secretary Kim Gwi do hands over the contract and Joong won says I cut off the input/opinion of your dead wife so follow what the men who are alive agreed on. sign it.

As they leave, the man yells “You cruel guy – no matter what you say my wife is here.” Joong Won says she isn’t here. come to your senses. man says just cuz you cant see with your eyes – if you disregard a person’s heart like this and treat it lightly -you will get hit my lightning. Joong won: I am going to continue being smart and live ignoring things that I can’t see. if what I said is wrong I will get hit by lightning. he holds out his arms in the rain daring the sky and says I didn’t get hit by lightning. he congratulates the man for making money today and leaves. the man says if there is a ghost it will be sure to take away a guy like you.

in the car, his secretary Kim asks are you really not scared of ghosts at all. Joong won says why be scared of dead people- the people who are alive are scary. I have to confirm the content of the contract again – give me what was recorded. Kim tells him which file it’s in and hands him the audio player. Joong won listens to it and reads over the contract and the letters on the paper move around and JW looks uncomfortable.

as their car goes along the road Gong Sil is standing there waving them down. Kim says what is that – it looks like a person. she is trying to wave down a car so should we stop. Joong Won says ignore her and go. the car stops suddenly when Kim brakes cuz of a flash of light. Joong won asks what was that. Kim says there was a sudden flash of light. was it lightning. Gong sil comes over and startles Joong won. She gets in thanking them and says I thought you didn’t see me and passed me. Kim asks what should I do. Joong Won puts on his seatbelt and pulls down the seat divider and tells him to just go.

Kim asks her how did you know a car would come along and stood there. Gong Sil says some ajumma said if I stood there a car would come. Kim says that ajumma got it right like a ghost. Gong Sil admits she was a ghost. I couldn’t avoid her. that’s correct. she takes off her raincoat and asks if this car is going to Seoul. Kim says yes and Joong Wong says no- just drop her off somewhere nearby. Kim says yes president. she looks over at the contract and asks are you the president of Kingdom? she pointed so he moves her hand aside. their hands touched so she says she just felt static electricity and asks didn’t you. but Joong Won says no. she argues she felt it really strong just now, but he denies it again. she asks Kim if Kingdom is that really big shopping mall. I live around near there so if you are headed there, but Joong won says which intersection should be ok so how about getting out there. she says ok. suddenly Gong Sil sees a ghost on the road and screams. it makes Kim brake. she begs him to just keep going. then she sees the ghost inside and gets so startled she grabs onto Joong Won and the ghost is gone. Joong Won uses his finger to push her off him. then he wipes that finger on his shoulder.

at the rest stop Kim gives her a drink and asks if she is ok. Gong sil: yes thank you. she excuses herself and walks away. Joong Wong: cuz that woman screamed so we brought her all the way here. maybe she screamed on purpose cuz I told her to get out. Kim says I don’t think so – what did she see to be so surprised.

Gong Sil remembers seeing the ghost again and it’s behind her

Joong Won goes looking for her and sees her talking to herself crouched on the ground. Joong won: what is that. Gong Sil says to her ghost - you drank alcohol and got into an accident but you miss alcohol again so I cant understand. it’s ok I don’t want any. I cant drink now – I am sorry. but she drinks. Joong won shakes his head like she is insane. Gong Sil: I didn’t get married. pretty? really? she is laughing when she sees Joong Won. she goes after Joong won and tells the ghost to leave and not follow. Joong won stops walking so she runs into him. when she touches Joong Won the ghost is gone. she is holding his arm as she says he’s not following me – he’s gone. Joong Won looks down at her offending hand but she keeps touching him. he says there are two things I hate. one- touching my money and the other touching my body. for touching my money I cut off the head of a flower. so what do you think I would do with the wrist that touches my body. she finally lets go and removes her hand. she says sorry if I offended you. I did that cuz I was just scared cuz that ajussi kept following me. Joong Won looks and says I don’t see anything with my eyes. she holds his arm again and says but he was there. he kept following me. but when I touched you like this he disappeared. Joong won watches her roving hands and brings up that ghost like ajumma. is she a friend of that ajussi who is chasing you. he tells her to go and have another drink with that ajumma and ajussi. she touches his arm again and says he is not here now. I think it’s cuz of you. he says I do have a special ability for chasing away people who follow me annoyingly. want to see it once? she nods yes. the car pulls up so he removes her hands and says let go and stay here. don’t be alarmed. he gets in the car and drives away. kim says she is following. JW says she is crazy so abandon her and go. he moves her white raincoat and finds the white rose he cut back at the house earlier. he throws out the rose

a guy (Yoo) is digging in the rain asking why isn’t it here – where is it. suddenly a ghost appears. GS opens her eyes and looks scared. she says I wish the rain would hurry and stop and the sun would come out.

There is news about the soccer player Yoo Hae Sung and top star Tae Yi Ryeong and how many people are interested in their wedding. where and how these two people will get married. Joong won watches the news in his car.

his uncle in law SC asks if Joong Won watched the morning news. entertainment news reported that Tae Yi Ryeong and Yoo HS would be getting married at Kingdom. Joong won points out they only showed the Kingdom logo for 15 secs. SC still thinks it’s advertising Kingdom. they stop walking in front of a giant poster of Tae Yi Ryeong and Joong won says the ad model I give money too -her wedding is an ad. as much money as I spent (on the wedding) get it back with ads. SC says I will get ten times the amount. there is one bothersome matter

in Joong won’s office SC brings up the letter that came to the wedding hall. he puts it on the table and Joong Won looks at a wedding photo of Yoo with a hole where the bride’s face is. he says this man is Yoo HS. SC says yes but doesn’t it look like they got married in the photo. Joong won says unless this photo was made up it looks like Yoo will have to pay a high price (meaning to get rid of this problem).

Yi Ryeong is going through her high school yearbook and says which friends not to send invitations to. she stops at Tae Gong Sil and the woman says she has the same last name as you. she is pretty – were you close? Yi Ryeong says we weren’t close. but still – call her (meaning invite her)

Gong Sil walks up the stairs and gets startled to run into two boys holding a can. she opens it for them and puts it on the table. the kid says if you just opened the can we could eat alone. she says since you are eating anyway, let’s eat together. she asks about their mom- did she not come in yesterday too. kid says our mom has to earn money so she is busy and couldn’t come. but that ajumma said you are weird noona. she said you were crazy. Gong Sil says no- a long time ago after the accident - I became different from other people. I was trying to live normally and worked at a company too. flashback to serving coffee and spilling it cuz she saw a ghost. Gong Sil says scary people came to see me at the office and couldn’t work there for very long. also I had a guy following me around too (a guy who liked her and they were about to kiss) but scary things kept interfering. still in order to live I did odd jobs. she drove a cab and asked where should I go, but she kept seeing ghosts everywhere. cuz of those people whose eyes I might catch and follow me around, I am always scared. It’s hard for me to go around and hold my head up properly. I wish there was just one place in the world I could run away and hide. kid says meet other people. cuz my mom is having a hard time and lonely, she meets men. you should do that too noona. she remembers Joong Won and wonders if that person will meet me.

Yoo looks at the wedding photo and says I dated her and she is the girlfriend who threw me away. He is still wearing the same bracelet as in the photo. his manager says since the photo was sent to the wedding hall, we need to be careful. this woman is an extortionist. Joong won says then you should cut ties with her -why keep wearing it and live. (meaning the bracelet). Yoo admits the reason for wearing it. the hatred for the woman who threw him away. Joong Won thinks the woman will come to see the wedding then. manager asks Joong won to pay special attention (as in get more security) so Joong won says I will charge you for the additional cost of that special attention.

Gong Sil sneaks a look and sees Joong Won’s sec leaving the office. she goes over and watches them meeting and there is a woman sitting there next to Yoo. suddenly the ghost is there so Gong Sil screams and falls. when Joong Won goes out Gong Sil isn’t there.

Gong Sil asks who are you. why are you doing this to me. the dead girl hangs in the air then she watches Yoo. Gong Sil asks the ghost – I just have to tell the soccer player about what was buried under the tree? I think I could tell him if I just get on the elevator with him. Gong Sil runs over to catch up calling out to Yoo, but Joong Won pulls her away by the hair. she says wait a minute and he asks what are you. who are you. she smiles at him and he recognizes her. she says it’s me. guards run over asking what’s going on. Joong Wong says someone acting strange/suspicious so get rid of her. as Joong won walks away, she calls out president it’s me - we met on the night it rained. you kept saying something cuz I kept touching you. don’t you remember? in the car there was static electricity between us too. on that night I took my clothes off and left it there. you remember don’t you? Joong won turns and stares from her then at the guard’s mouth gaping open in shock.

when it’s just the two of them, she explains she came to meet him, but something came up and she had to meet Yoo. He scowls and says you had to meet the president and a famous star -you sure are busy. Gong Sil: I’m not meeting Yoo cuz I want to – the one who is special to me is you. she points at him so he pulls back. she tries to poke him so he avoids her finger. Gong Sil: if you just keep staying by my side, then I don’t have to meet that person. he keeps flinching away from her hand. he asks if she is a seductress who goes after her mark once she has latched on. she shakes her head no. Joong won: or are you a crazed runaway who was supposed to just stay home? she shakes her head no. he offers to call the squad car if she is sane and the ambulance if she is unwell. which car do you want to ride to go home huh? she admits she rode in a squad car and rode the ambulance a few times, but she doesn’t want to ride them ever again. Joong won: then leave quietly. if you keep sticking to me then you will end up seeing a more extreme method. Gong Sil: annoyingly sticking around – it’s really distasteful. all you did was catch their eye once but they frighteningly follow you around and keep asking requests that have nothing to do with me. I have a lot of those people too so I know very well how much you hate it. I will be going. she bows and walks away

Joong Won’s aunt and uncle in law are having dinner. she says oppa is in spain now. SC looks at the pic on the phone and says hyung’s woman this time got younger and pretty. he says president Joong won didn’t take after hyung seeing how there is no woman around him. she wonders if there is a ghost stuck to him so there is no woman. maybe I should get an exorcism performed or get involved and find him a partner. he says it will be hard – didn’t you hear that saying about when a first love is involved. he talks about the rumors about a curse going around about Joong won and says it will be hard for him to get married. it’s cuz his personality is bad so he doenst have a woman. he never once called me uncle in law. she says it’s cuz you are so young. he seems to buy that

Joong Won is typing about stars pouring down and covering up the letters so he can read them better cuz the letters keep moving. he reads about the sun and weather will be colder tm. the letters increase and multiply so he closes his eyes and rubs them. there is a resume for Kang woo on the table.

Kang Woo is shown the best room in the gositel by the owner. are you just staying here a month. Kang Woo says yes. she says if you go to the roof you can do laundry. exercise, and the view is really good. he smiles and bows

Kang Woo goes to the roof to look around and finds GS sleeping on a chair with sunglasses on. he goes over and moves the sheet to shield her from the sun but she wakes up and sees his shadow behind the sheet and thinks he is a ghost and pushes him saying go away. he falls down and she asks are you a person. kang woo: yes. Gong sil: you are a person

as they hang the sheet back up, she says so you came into #404. the grandma is no longer there so you will be able to sleep well. he asks if a grandma lived in that room. Gong Sil: not living – she just stayed there a while. I manage things here at the gositel so if you need anything, tell me. also sorry for startling you a while ago. I was drowsy and thought you weren’t a person. Kang Woo: I thought you weren’t a person too. you seemed like a cat – a cat sleeping well in the sun. she says then why bother a cat sleeping well. she meows and giggles. he just smiles. he bows and leaves. she says he is good looking. suddenly the ghost from before (Yoo’s former girlfriend Mi Kyung) asks Gong Sil to meet that person (Yoo)

Yi Ryeong is taking photos with Yoo. reporter asks if he isn’t going to Europe after the wedding. Yoo says no - I am signing on with a new agency.

when it’s just the two of them, Yi Ryeong is looking at her reflection in the mirror and says you said you wouldn’t go to Europe. you are older and have injuries. even if you go there again, your star status will just drop. he says before I am a star I am a soccer player. of course I would want to run again in a bigger playing field. she says people think we are the Korean Beckham and Victoria. Victoria wouldn’t want to encourage Beckham to become ruined. You don’t have confidence too right? Yoo looks over and the ghost of Mi Kyung is there in the reflection. he just says let’s talk later. Yi Ryeong says no one is looking for you anymore (meaning Yoo isn’t popular anymore). didn’t your manager tell you.

Yoo kicks a soccer ball and asks “hyung – you said you would keep looking.” the manager says give up – instead of Europe it’s a safer choice to stay here with Tae Yi Ryeong and star group. Yoo says never mind if you wont then I will look myself. manager says this isn’t a time for you to pay attention to that right now. this came again. he shows another photo of the face of the bride removed

flashback to the girl and Yoo under a tree. she is burying something and he asks what is inside. she says that later on she could use it to threaten him with if he ever leaves her. he says why would I throw you away. she tells him to keep the key safe. it was attached to his bracelet.

Yoo says when Mi Kyung was next to me, it was when I was having the most difficult time. I did a lot of things that if others know they would point fingers. the information about the days I was bad is probably inside there. manager asks did you find it – where is it. Yoo says it wasn’t there. Mi Kyung probably took it out. could she be threatening me with that. manager says don’t worry just trust me- if you just stay by my side I will take care of everything.

sec Kim goes to his car and finds Gong sil crouching behind it. he says you startled me. Gong Sil: I came to ask a request. does the president have a reason to meet Yoo by any chance. Kim says he has an appointment to meet today but I cant take you along. Gong Sil hands him a note and asks him to pass it along to Yoo. with him. when Yoo sees that note he will come to meet me. please be sure to pass it along to him. she sees Joong Won and sneaks away

GS is leaning on a tree saying she is so sleepy she could die and wants to hurry and finish this and sleep. she sees a billboard of Yoo and says so she always watched over him from here. Joong Won showed up behind her and asks see what? she stands up startled and mutters she thought Kim was a good guy. Joong won asks what is this and holds out the letter and drawing. the message said which park and tree she would wait under. who is this face. is this woman perhaps Kim Mi kyung. Gong sil asks how do you know her? Joong Won says this is the woman threatening him (Yoo). Gong sil says what do you mean threaten - that isn’t it. he looks around and asks where is this woman. Gong Sil: she isn’t next to us now. he asks where she went. Gong Sil says that person is dead. Joong Won: she died? then did you threaten? Gong Sil: no I am just relaying her heart in her place.

Yoo is drinking and Mi kyung watches him. Gong Sil narrates Mi kyung wanted to always protect and cheer him on so that she can relay that heart - please give this (note) to Yoo. JW rips up the drawing and says it’s the end when you die – don’t torment the person living. he throws the torn pieces in the air and walks off

Gong Sil is walking and finds the son about to go gambling again with a fresh stack of money. he recognizes her from before and thanks her. she reminds him how the grandma said not to gamble but he says mind your own business. she stops him from going in saying how could you do this – grandma made that request not to do it so I went all the way over there to give it to you. he says what does my dead mom have to do with you.

at the subway station, Gong Sil says that’s right – everything I go around doing is useless. what’s so important about the words of a dead person - no one is listening anyway. Mi Kyung’s ghost cries on the other platform. she keeps showing up in front of Gong Sil so she cries out please go – don’t follow me- don’t bother me. cuz of you I look like a crazy person. leave me alone so I can live. she runs off

Joong Won asks if Kim Mi kyung really is the one threatening. I think there might be a mix up. manager says no it’s correct – it’s that woman. I saw her hanging around the office. Joong Won asks you saw her yourself. he remembers how Gong Sil said that person is dead. manager says I will stop that woman for you. don’t worry too much. if I am by your side everything will be figured out well. Yoo says I loved her so I don’t know why she is doing this to me. Joong Won says it’s cuz of money – a person who is alive – aside from money, what else is there. aren’t you scared that you will lose what you have now. Yoo: I am just scared of Mi kyung’s heart. Joong won: why be scared of a heart you cant see. the person you can see is scary. (he says that looking right at the manager). anyway this will be settled well and safely.

Kang Woo calls and reports in saying he came from president Joong won’s Kingdom security team. yes. I will continue keeping watch

Gong Sil gets an invitation to Yi Ryeong’s wedding. her front door is covered with religious artifacts, a cross, garlic, and anything else to ward off evil spirits. she says what is this – thanks to Yi Ryeong I will get to see Yoo.

wedding preparations go under way

Joong Won says today isn’t Tae Yi Ryeong’s wedding – it is the day Kingdom films a CF. his uncle in law says in order to see the groom and bride’s face - so that they cant avoid the lobby, he put up all the flower wreaths. Joong won says even if you put one up, for it to be seen properly make it big.

Yoo is wearing his bracelet on his wedding day

Gong Sil gets the box from Mi kyung’s memorial and says to her photo- you come too. I might not be able to get through, but leaving you to be misunderstood, then you will be too pitiful.

at the mall Joong Won sees Gong Sil walking away and says that woman came all this way. sec Kim wonders why she is trying so hard to meet Yoo. Joong Won: she said she wants to relay some words from a dead person. so it wont be an annoyance alert the security team and stop that woman.

the call goes through and Kang Woo the team leader is alerted about that guest caught on camera 4. Kang woo puts the call through to watch the female guest passing by in front of there. he sees Gong Sil on the monitor and recognizes her. he whispers “cat?”

the friends gather around and Yi Ryeong says it’s ok to take pictures. you can brag to others you went to school with me. friends reluctantly say thanks and you are pretty. Yi ryeong asks Tae gong sil didn’t come? one says the big sun is coming too? another says how Yi Ryeong was the small sun and Gong Sil was the big sun. Yi ryeong is curious what happened with her. one says she heard Gong Sil got stranger

Gong Sil explains she is a friend of the bride. her name is confirmed to be on the list and she is allowed to enter. security trails her so the uncle in law gets his sec to confirm who she is.

sec Kim says that miss came to attend Tae Yi Ryeong’s wedding. Joong won asks if her name was confirmed on the guest list of names sent invitations. Kim says yes and she is Tae Yi Ryeong’s high school friend and her name is Tae Gong Sil. joong won asks so was she allowed to enter?

Gong Sil goes to see Yoo. he asks who she is and why she has that container. are you the one who has been threatening (extorting) me during all that time. what about Mi Kyung? where is Mi kyung - she came with you didn’t she? where is she? he takes the box and asks are you threatening me with this and want money. I will give you all the money but where is Mi kyung. he throws the box and it falls open. his soccer shoes come out. she says Mi kyung is dead. when you left she was already sick. she was really sick and died. you were misunderstanding her so I came to relay Mi kyung’s real heart.

Yi Ryeong wonders why Yoo isn’t showing up. she is told he disappeared.

Joong won goes over and his uncle says Yoo left with the car. could he have gotten cold feet? maybe the guy who was threatening him showed up. the manager says that woman wouldn’t show up cuz she is dead for certain. Joong Won glares at him and says you are the one threatening Yoo. if you ruin my event I will show you what real threat is. suddenly Joong Won says Tae Gong Sil’s name.

Gong Sil says to Mi kyung - I must have relayed your heart wrong. You held onto the memories alone here – wonder what kind of heart you had

flashback to Mi kyung sick in the hospital and crying look at their wedding pic saying Hae sung – I miss you – I miss you so much. at the alter, they pretended to get married and she walks away from him and turns to says just up to here. he asks what she is talking about. she says I cant take care of you anymore. you go alone to Europe. she dropped her bouquet and walked out of church in tears. Yoo called out her name

suddenly Yoo comes over and Mi kyung sees him wearing the soccer shoes. Gong Sil’s voice says Mi kyung shi wanted to relay her heart to you

flashback to Yoo coming out of the precinct all beaten up and saying -you just go. my life is over but Mi kyung put those cleats around his neck and encouraged him saying it’s not over. continue playing soccer. if you play soccer I will become a lawyer. he asks if these cleats are good so she lightly hits him.

Gong Sil told him - those soccer shoes – it was the first time she did something for your sake

Yoo stands there and reaches out to an imaginary Mi kyung. they had exchanged rings at church. she reaches out and tries to hold his hand. at church he had kissed her forehead. he walks through her and touches the tree saying Mi kyung - I miss you. he is crying so she touches his back and he turns around.

Gong Sil says leaving you- it was the last thing she could do for you.

Joong Won showed up and watched all that

Yoo is walking through a crowd of fans. his manager goes to him and Yoo punches him and keeps going.

Yoo continues and meets Yi Ryeong. she says I waited so talk. he says I am going to continue playing soccer. the woman in my heart keeps cheering me on. she cries and slaps him

yoo tells Joong Won he would compensate him for his losses. cuz of his threats, without a word my manager said he would take responsibility. Joong won: by dragging in a dead person, the person living was ruined. Yoo says your event was ruined, but I saved my wedding. this was my real wedding. he holds out the photo of the church wedding with Mi kyung. Joong Won says how hard it will be for Yoo to recover from this cuz of his age and injuries. you will regret this moment many times. Yoo: I might. Joong won steps up to his face and says it will turn out like that. after calling forth a dead person and having a romance, even if she gave you courage, she wont give talent. while watching you be destroyed after each match, I will enjoy it. watching soccer will be fun. you can go. before he leaves, Yoo turns and says Tae Gong Sil told me to tell you something.

 Kang Woo goes back to the boarding house “gositel” as Joong won pulls up

Gong Sil is on the roof wishing - please no one would show up today – I am so tired I could die. wish I could run away somewhere and sleep comfortably with my heart at ease. there are bubbles floating around and she says don’t come - go away. JW watches that and remembers asking Yoo what did that woman Tae Gong Sil say. Yoo: that a dead person has no power, but that heart remains. next to your side too, she says there is a heart like that. is there a dead person you can’t forget and keep in your heart?

back on the rooftop, Joong won flashes back to screaming out Hee joo as young JW was held back from helping her. the car burns with her inside and then the car explodes.

Joong Won walks over and says Tae Gong Sil. He pulls her up and asks - Tae Gong Sil – what are you saying is next to me? what do you see next to me. Gong Sil mutters I am so sleepy. he shakes her. Joong won: say it – what is next to me. she says I just want to sleep next to you and falls into his arms and sleeps. his arms are sticking out awkwardly as she sleeps. bubbles swirl around them.

Seriously? how can there be no preview on the very first episode? has that ever happened in the history of kdrama? wonder why they are keeping us in the dark.

Now that I had time to process what I just saw, I say with utter relief that I am no longer scared of this drama. Ever since that scene with the grandma who left money behind for her gambling son, when her face softened from the scary version, it’s like something in my head clicked and fear went out the window. Even when more ghosts popped up left and right, I just described the scenes and translated like everything was normal. You should have seen me before the episode began though. That was a whole other story – my hands were shaking so much I could barely type. It’s the first time during a recap I wanted to cry when there was nothing sad on the screen. I honestly love this first episode and feel so foolish for doubting the Hong sisters. I should have known they wouldn’t insert so many ghosts unless they had a purpose. It’s sort of like Arang in a way cuz Sato helped out ghosts he saw too. I know that Gong Shil will probably disagree, but what she is doing is honorable. At least now she won’t have to continue on alone. Once she gets Joong Won on her side, he will give her the breaks she needs to sleep and rest. I can’t believe how quickly this first episode went by. I love when stories take off from the start like this and doesn’t drag at any point. Now that I have peace of mind, I can really enjoy this drama from here on. Those of you who were scared like me – have no fear. Once you see these dead people as more than just mere ghouls – it saps the fear right out of you. Trust me – this is coming from the world’s most consistent scaredy cat.

I wonder if he knows the mistake he just made by leaving her behind. I was hoping when he looked at this rose, he was having second thoughts. In a way, she embodies that rose. Fragile and perfect in the sense that despite her constant run ins with the dead, she still has a kind heart and helps out each ghost that seeks her out. I know it’s too soon for him to have any feelings towards Gong Sil right now except annoyance that she keeps touching him since it’s one of his pet peeves, but I keep hoping he saw a little of her in that rose before he tossed it. As we all know, there is a song and dance that has to be played out between our leads. One advances and the other steps back. In this case, by constantly touching him, Gong Sil is being more forward than she should based on her desperation to be near him again so he can keep the ghosts away. Having said that, you still can’t negate the fact that he is playing along too. In that last part, she has finally piqued his curiosity and now he wants to know what she sees beside him. In order to get his answers, he is going to probably abandon his own comfort zone and actually allow her to invade his space. Pretty sure he is going to get more than he bargained for and I for one can’t wait to see how Gong Sil and her ghostly visions shake up his controlled world. Serves him right for throwing out such a perfect rose.
